First Birthday Photoshoot with a Cake Smash in Studio | Newport Beach, CA
Whether it’s a session I am photographing or a stage my daughter is going through, I find myself constantly saying THIS is my favorite…until the next! I think there’s just something truly exciting about each phase these little ones go through. Sure, there are some really hard moments (hello, sleep regressions and potty training!), but when you take the time to slow down and just experience life with them, it’s so so special. And my goodness, am I so glad I had the chance to experience this sweet boy’s first birthday photoshoot!
Nathan came to my studio in Newport Beach to celebrate his first birthday. He is the sweetest boy, with the most charming personality. His eyes and little smile melt me every time and being able to celebrate with him, along with his Mom and Dad was so much fun.
I’m also convinced that every little boy must wear suspenders for a photoshoot at some point, right? Just so precious! His little outfit paired perfectly with the dress Mom chose from the client wardrobe.
After some solo photos of Nathan, we took some family photos and then made sure that Mom and Dad both had a photo with their birthday boy! While I will always prioritize family portraits as a whole, I also want to make sure you have individual photos with your children, especially on their birthday!
Then, the moment we were all waiting for…the cake smash! Nathan wasn’t so sure about the cake, but we were still able to get some of those iconic cake photos thanks to a few tricks I’ve learned over the years! Mom baked and decorated the cake and I love how it turned out. A simple, white, or “naked” cake is perfect for a cake smash. I have a few cake stands and toppers you can use or bring one of your own.
